Man rescued from Thames River

A man is in serious condition after being pulled from the Thames River near downtown London.

Emergency crews were called to the area of Carfrae Street and Richmond Street around 11 a.m. on Thursday.

"When fire crews arrived on scene the police department already had the male on the north bank and were performing CPR," said Platoon Chief Colin Shewell.

Firefighters used an inflatable boat to take the unconscious man to the south shore where paramedics were waiting.

"The reason we brought them across the water was it was ease of extrication and it was the quickest way of deploying EMS... we were able to extricate the patient very quickly," said Shewell.

The man was rushed to hospital in "very serious condition."
