SIU investigating after man injured during arrest

The province's police watchdog is investigating after a man suffered an apparent injury during an arrest involving a police dog in London.

The London Police Service said a man fled from officers during a traffic stop on Sanders Street on Sunday at around 9:40 p.m, and a police service K9 unit was called in to search for the man.

Police said a suspect was located a short distance away, and he "had an apparent injury upon being arrested". He was taken to hospital to be treated.

The officers were not injured during the arrest.

It is unknown if any charges have been laid against the suspect.

Due to the man's injury, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked its mandate and is investigating.

The SIU investigates any incident involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
