McIntyre named acting deputy chief

A 20-year veteran of the London Police Service has been named its Acting Deputy Chief.

Acting Inspector Trish McIntyre steps into the role in the wake of the resignation of Deputy Chief Daryl Longworth, who will become the chief of police in Woodstock in the fall. She becomes the first female deputy chief in the history of the London Police Service.

According to a statement from the London Police Services Board, McIntyre was born and raised in London and began her policing career as a cadet with the London Police Service in 1999. She has worked in Uniformed Patrol, Major Case Management, the Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Section, and the Major Crime Section. She has also has held supervisory positions in the Major Crime Section, Professional Standards Branch, Patrol Operations Branch, Investigations Branch, and was recently was promoted to Acting Inspector in charge of a Patrol Modernization Project, a statement from the Board said.

"Acting Inspector Trish McIntyre is a highly qualified and exceptional police officer who has earned the opportunity to serve as acting deputy chief," Councillor Mo Salih, who is chair of the Police Services Board, said in a statement released Monday. "The Board is looking forward to the positive impact and experiences she will bring forward.”

The Police Services Board is also actively searching for a new chief of police. John Pare announced his retirement in January. His last day on the job is later this month.
