TVDSB names new education director

The Thames Valley District School Board has named a well-known educator from the Durham region as its new director of education.

Mark Fisher will take over the role from Laura Elliott on September 1.

Elliott has held the job since 2013 and announced her retirement last December, sparking the search for a replacement.

"Mark is an optimistic and proactive problem-solver, who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role of director,” Board Chair Arlene Morell said in a statement. “Trustees look forward to working with Mark, especially during this time of challenging funding considerations.”

Fisher is currently the Associate Director of Academic Services for the Durham District School Board. He previously served as a superintendent at the Durham school board and at the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board.

In 2012, Fisher spent a year as the Student Achievement Officer with the Ontario Ministry of Education. He holds a Bachelor's degree from McGill University, and Masters degrees in Science Education and International Education.

“This is an exciting opportunity for me to focus my years of experience to collaborate with trustees, administrators, teachers, and support staff to improve student learning and student success at Thames Valley," said Fisher.
