Scattered showers possible over long weekend

Anyone heading to the campgrounds this Victoria Day weekend may occasionally have to seek shelter from the rain.

Environment Canada is forecasting a chance of showers throughout the weekend in Southwestern Ontario, which could turn into thunderstorms in some areas.  Meteorologist Ryan Rozinskis said it will be a bit of change from the cloudy but mostly dry weather from last year's long weekend.

"We're looking at a low-pressure system that's making its way over northeastern Ontario towards Sault Ste. Marie," said Rozinskis. "We will be seeing precipitation through the weekend from that."

However, he said the precipitation will not be continuous, with sunshine expected between the showers.

"Not looking like at it being a washout of a weekend," said Rozinskis. "There should be many breaks between the rain, particularly as we head into Saturday night and early Sunday."

Temperatures are expected to climb just above the 20 C mark on Saturday and reach the mid-20s by Sunday, Rozinskis said. The weather is then expected to cool to just below 20 C on Monday

With the latter half of the weekend being a few days away, Rozinskis said to keep an eye on the forecast for any significant changes.
