Hunter named head coach for Canada at WJHC

A familiar face will be behind the bench for Team Canada at the 2020 World Junior Hockey Championship.

Hockey Canada announced Tuesday that London Knights head coach Dale Hunter will be the head coach for Canada at the tournament in the Czech Republic from December 26-January 5. Mark Hunter, the co-owner and General Manager for the Knights, had already been named the GM of Team Canada.

Ottawa 67's head coach Andre Tourigny and Saskatoon Blades head coach Mitch Love will serve as Dale Hunter's assistants at the World Juniors.

Hockey Canada also announced Tuesday that Spokane Chiefs coach Dan Lambert will serve as the head coach for Canada's National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team, with Mario Duhamel and Stratford-native Dennis Williams.

“We are excited about the two coaching staffs that have been assembled for Canada’s National Junior Team and Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team, both of which include a combination of Canadian Hockey League, National Hockey League and international coaching experience,” said Shawn Bullock, director of men’s national teams for Hockey Canada. “We know all six coaches will represent our country with a tremendous amount of pride as they look to bring home gold medals at the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship and 2019 Hlinka Gretzky Cup.”
