Wanted London man arrested in St. Catharines

A London man wanted for allegedly dragging a police officer with a stolen vehicle last month has been arrested.

Ronald Kyle Towle, 36, was taken into custody Wednesday after members of the OPP repeat offenders parole enforcement team tracked him down in St. Catharines.

Towle is charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, mischief under $5,000, obstructing a peace officer, operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited, possession of property obtained by crime, and failing to comply with recognizance. The charges stem from an incident on March 31.

London police found a vehicle in a Wavell Street parking lot that had been reported stolen from a Wharncliffe Road South dealership a few hours earlier. When officers approached, a female passenger ran away while the male driver reversed the vehicle into an unmarked police car. The vehicle then pulled forward, mounting the curb, sidewalk, and lawn, while dragging an officer.

Fortunately, the officer was able to unhook himself from the vehicle before it drove off. The officer was not hurt and a 21-year-old woman was arrested nearby. She was charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

A warrant was issued for Towle's arrest in relation to the incident in the days that followed.
