London pot shop busted

Just a few days before private marijuana retail shops are allowed to open in Ontario, an illegal pot shop in London has been busted by police.

The Ontario Provincial Police announced Friday that officers raided an illegal cannabis storefront on Wellington Street on Thursday. Just over $2,200 worth of cannabis products, including edibles, creams, and oil was seized.

A 32-year-old woman is charged with possession of cannabis for the purpose of selling.

"The OPP is continuing to lead an enforcement strategy which includes other Ontario police services. This strategy will reflect actionable intelligence on illegal cannabis operations," police said in a statement issued Friday. "The focus of the strategy is to dismantle organized crime groups, eliminate the illegal cannabis supply, remove illegal cannabis enterprises such as storefronts and online, and target the proceeds of crime and assets."

As of Monday, 25 privately owned marijuana stores will be legally allowed to open across Ontario.
