London Police Chief John Pare to retire in June

After three decades in policing, London's top cop will retire from the force this summer.

Police Chief John Pare announced his planned departure from the London Police Service on Friday. His last day on the job will be June 28.

“Chief Pare’s leadership of the London Police Service has been marked by enhanced community collaboration and accessibility, integrity and vision. Chief Pare focused his energy on our community being inclusive, welcoming and safe for all, including the need for better supports for our community’s most vulnerable populations, including those suffering from mental health, addictions and homelessness issues," said London Police Services Board Chair Mo Salih in a statement. "His deep passion for this community and the London Police Service, his vast experience and dedication to his profession will be greatly missed.”

Pare took over the helm of the London police force in May 2015 after Brad Duncan retired. Prior to that, the 55-year-old served for three years as the force's deputy chief. He began his policing career in LaSalle in 1987 before joining the London Police Service in 1989.

The London Police Services Board plans to launch its search for Pare's replacement "in the very near future."
