Man accused of using Instagram to lure young girl

London police say a Hamilton man is charged after allegedly using social media to try to lure a 10-year-old girl.

And police believe there may be more victims.

Officers with the London Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit raided a home in Hamilton on Wednesday after an investigation that began when a 10-year-old London girl told her parents about an exchange she had on Instagram.

"As a result of the investigation, police learned that a male was operating an Instagram account with the handle of @amanda_brouwerr with more than 1,500 followers," police said in a news release issued Thursday. "The account has attached profile information advising that it is a modelling page with an image of a young girl displayed."

According to police, a man sent the 10-year-old direct messages while pretending to be a 13-year-old girl. He asked her if she wanted to model for an Instagram page and asked her for pictures of her feet. When police raided the home in Hamilton, they seized a mobile device that allegedly contained several images of child sexual abuse.

David Molnar, 24, of Hamilton is charged with invitation to sexual touching under 16 years of age, two counts of luring a person under 16 by telecommunication, possession of and child pornography.

"London police believe that there are additional victims who may have been in contact with this individual or shared images through the @amanda_brouwerr Instagram account, and are asking victims to contact police," police said.

Anyone with information in relation to this incident, or this Instagram account is asked to call the London Police Service at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Information can also be sent in online anonymously to www.londoncrimestoppers.com
