Five people charged in downtown pot shop raid

For the second time in two weeks, police have raided an illegal pot shop in London.

Officers with the OPP and London police searched the London Relief Centre at 691 Richmond St. on December 13. An unknown quantity of cannabis was seized from the business.

Five people between the ages of 21 and 36 were arrested and are now charged under the Federal Cannabis Act with possession for the purpose of selling. The three men and two women are scheduled to appear on court in relation to the charge at a later date.

On November 29, police raided the Relief Centre and a second marijuana dispensary -- Healing Health at 490 Wonderland Rd. -- resulting in charges being laid against 17 people and two landlords.

Police swooped down on the Relief Centre twice in 2017 and once back in May 2018. The storefront reopened repeatedly despite police pressure.

In a news release following the most recent raid, police stressed they are working to dismantle organized crime groups, eliminate the illegal cannabis supply, remove illegal cannabis enterprises such as storefronts and online, and target the proceeds of crime and assets.
