Man charged in dozens of break-ins

A 32-year-old London man is facing more than 80 charges after a three-month investigation into a series of break-ins throughout the city.

Between mid-August and late November, more than two dozen homes were broken into and more than $250,000 worth of property stolen, according to London police. Over $29,000 worth of damage was also reported in relation to the break-ins.

After nearly three months of investigating, officers searched a home on Kimberly Avenue and another address in the east-end on November 24. A 32-year-old man was arrested and several items previously reported stolen were found.

“Break and enters to a family home are often viewed only as a property offence but we recognize the impact is much more than a broken door and missing items,” said Det. Sgt. Ryan Scrivens. “This type of crime is as much about an invasion of one’s personal safety and privacy, as it is about missing televisions or computers. Some of the stolen items hold great sentimental value to their owners and are, in essence, irreplaceable.”

Trevor Goessel of London is charged with 24 counts of break and enter, 26 counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, theft of a vehicle, 6 counts of driving while disqualified, two counts of theft under $5,000, and 28 counts of failing to comply with bail conditions.

He is scheduled to appear in London court in relation to the charges on December 12.

London police are asking anyone who had jewellery, purses and electronics stolen from their homes in break-in between mid-August and late November to email them at recoveredproperty@londonpolice.ca with a description of the stolen items. An investigator will then reach out to them with more information.
