Driver charged, deceased passenger identified after fatal weekend crash

A 24-year-old man is facing impaired driving charges in connection with a fatal crash that took place southwest of Aylmer over the weekend.

The OPP responded to a single-vehicle collision involving a red pickup truck at the intersection of John Wise Line and Springwater Road at around 3 a.m. Saturday and arrested one person at the scene.

Constable Adam Crewdson said the pickup was heading toward Aylmer on John Wise Line when it left the road and hit some trees.

A second person, who was a passenger in the pickup truck at the time of the crash, died as a result of his injuries and has been identified as 25-year-old Spencer Dyck of Central Elgin, Ontario.

Police said the driver of the vehicle, 24-year-old Joshua Houston from Southwold Township, is now charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, careless driving causing death, impaired driving causing death, and having more than 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood causing death.

The OPP continue to investigate the crash and they are asking any witnesses who haven't already spoken to police to come forward.
