City busts unlicenced food seller

Selling food without a licence has led to charges by London's by-law enforcement team.

A news release from the City of London issued Friday said city staff reponsded to complaints of food being sold out of the back of a truck in the parking lot of a plaza at 490 Wonderland Road South.

"In the effort to maintain healthy and safe food sources for all Londoners, Business Licensing by-law requires food sales locations to be regulated and licensed. This assures that the food sold to community members is up to health and safety standards," a city said in the news release.

It added that, given the recent concerns from Health Canada about romaine lettuce and kale being liked to the threat of illness, staff were quick to repond to the complaint.

“In partnership with the Middlesex London Health Unit, the City’s Municipal Law Enforcement Services makes it a high priority to respond to complaints regarding the sale of food from allegedly unregulated premises,” said Orest Katolyk, London’s Chief Municipal Law Enforcement Officer. “When purchasing food from the back of a truck, think of the people you will be serving the food to and ask yourself, ‘is this a wise decision?’’
