A gift for every child: Rockin' the Stockin' returns

Putting a smile on an underprivileged child's face this Christmas is as easy as picking up an extra toy when out shopping this holiday season.

The Rockin’ the Stockin’ Toy Drive, a joint initiative by Classic Rock 98.1 and the Salvation Army, is underway with collection bins set up outside of the Santa display area at White Oaks Mall. People are asked to drop off new, unwrapped toys for kids ranging in age from infant to 16 at that location.

"It is extremely important, especially at this time of year, to help London's most vulnerable people - our children," said Becky Malacaria, marketing manager at Classic Rock 98.1. "The Salvation Army makes certain that all toys donated remain within London. Please consider giving to Rockin' the Stockin' at White Oaks Mall, located by Santa at Sport Chek."

The Rockin' the Stockin' donation bins will remain in the mall for roughly three more weeks. The final toy pick-up is slated for December 24. Area businesses can also sign up to collect toys for the drive at www.classicrock981.com. Classic Rock 98.1 employees will pick up the donated items and deliver them to the Salvation Army in time for Christmas.

The Salvation Army will hand out more than 5,200 Christmas hampers to families in need this month, which includes everything needed to make a traditional holiday dinner and children's toys. It is estimated the charity will need toys for 6,500 children to meet the demand.
