Knights double up Sarnia 6-3 on Teddy Bear Day

A big third period was enough for the London Knights to get past the Sarnia Sting and extend their winning streak to 14 on Sunday.

The Knights scored three unanswered goals in the final period of regulation for a 6-3 win over the Sting at Budweiser Gardens, as part of the Knights' annual Teddy Bear Toss game. London now has 42 points and first-place in the OHL Midwest Division standings. The Sting are tied for third with Windsor in the West Division with 28 points.

The bears, 8,763 of them in total, did not start flying until 16:55 of the first period, when Adam Boqvist scored his seventh goal of the year. The game resumed after a delay during which hundreds of stuffed animals tossed from the stands were cleared from the ice. Sarnia tied the game before the first intermission on Franco Sproviero's tenth season goal.

London extended their lead by two goals in the second period. Liam Foudy scored short-handed, then Josh Nelson followed suit for a 3-1 Knights lead after 40 minutes.

The Sting came back with a pair of goals within the first seven minutes of the third period. Ryan McGregor cut the Sarnia deficit just 17 seconds in, then Sproviero had the equalizer, his second score of the game. London then roared back and put the game away for good with goals scored, in order, by Antonio Stranges, Evan Bouchard and Alec Regula.

Joseph Raaymakers had 32 saves out of 35 tries for the Knights in net. Ethan Langevin had 36 stops in goal for Sarnia.

The Sting travel to Windsor Thursday night to take on the Spitfires. The Knights next host Kingston on Friday night.
