Cyclist injured in St. Thomas hit-and-run

St. Thomas police are asking the public for help in their investigation of a collision.

It happened around 6 a.m. Sunday. Police say a person was riding his bicycle eastbound on South Edgeware Rd. and had just crossed the intersection at First Ave. when he was struck from behind. The impact sent the cyclist off his bike. The 44-year-old rider's wrists were injured in the incident but he was able to ride home where he called police and an ambulance. It is not known to what extent the rider's wrists were injured.

The rider told police that he believed his rear tire was struck by a vehicle making a right turn from First Ave. onto S. Edgeware Rd. The vehicle is described as a silver or grey four-door sedan, similar to an older model Ford Taurus.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or knows to whom the vehicle belongs to call St. Thomas police at (519) 631-1364, or Crime Stoppers at (519) 631-TIPS (8477).
