Charges laid after Connaught Ave. shooting

Two London men arrested after a man was shot at an east-end apartment building are now facing several charges.

London police found a 26-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound at the three-storey walk-up at 135 Connaught Avenue shortly after midnight on Thursday. The man was treated for his injuries at the scene, while two other men were arrested.

Officers seized a handgun, loaded magazine, several cell phones, eight grams of cocaine, one gram of marijuana, and a digital scale from a nearby vehicle.

While the two suspects were at police headquarters on Dundas St., an officer and a cadet were assaulted. Both suffered minor injuries.

Jordan David Robert Leblanc, 23, is charged with 17 offences including possession of a Schedule II substance, possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon, careless use of a firearm, weapon or prohibited device, occupying a vehicle with a firearm, possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order, impaired driving, and failing to submit to a drug test.

Cody M. Anthony Leblanc Ashe, 22, is charged with two counts of assaulting a peace officer.

This is not the first time the 22-year-old has been in trouble with the police. In May, Leblanc Ashe was one of two men charged in relation to a shooting at an apartment building at 1588 Ernest Ave. Nearly two years before that, he was charged with uttering death threats, carrying a concealed weapon, assault with a weapon, and assaulting a police officer after people were threatened by two men in the area of Brunswick Crescent and Brunswick Avenue.

The police major crime section is continuing its investigation into the shooting on Connaught Avenue.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at -519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
