Dream Lottery looks for third straight sellout

Dream Lottery officials are optimistic the semi-annual sweepstakes will sellout for the third time in a row.

The fall edition of the lottery that offers luxury homes, cash, cars, and vacations in support of the London Health Sciences Centre, Children’s Hospital, and St. Joseph’s Health Care London launched on Thursday.

This time around the lucky grand prize winner will have their choice of a fully furnished, $1.8-million two-storey home in southwest London, a luxury downtown condo in the Tricar Azure tower with $500,000 cash, or $1 million cash.

The dream condo is 1615 sq. ft. with a gourmet kitchen and comes fully furnished. It also has access to a wide variety of amenities including a fitness centre, state-of-the-art golf simulator, social lounge, and a 29th floor rooftop terrace. The condo prize package also includes $500,000 cash for a total value of $1,114,788.73.

The 5,120 square foot home at 7375 Silver Creek Circle was built by Millstone Homes in a new neighbourhood near Lambeth. It has four bedrooms, four bathrooms, and an open-concept kitchen.

"The house is really contemporary, which I find really cool. The kitchen is huge, the bedrooms upstairs are big. It is a really, really neat house," said John MacFarlane, president and CEO of London Health Sciences Foundation. "When you drive up to it you definitely notice it because it has a different look. People are going to love it."

The 50/50 Plus draw has returned with a guaranteed minimum prize of $250,000 and no maximum. This past spring it climbed above the $1 million mark with the winner taking half. There is also the chance to win a prize every day in February with the Riches & Relaxation Calendar. Every day throughout the month will see draws for travel certificates or cash.

The last two editions of the Dream Lottery sold out and officials believe they can keep that sellout streak alive this time around.

"If we can sell this out by November 29, then we could have a draw on December 13 and somebody is going to have a pretty nice Christmas present," said MacFarlane.

Since launching in 1996, the lottery has raised a net total of over $33.6 million in support of London’s three hospitals.

"The great thing about this money is that it is what we would call 'unrestricted dollars,' so it allows these hospitals to use it for their highest priorities. Those priorities could be expensive equipment that they wouldn't otherwise get, it could be research or other patient needs," said MacFarlane. "The hospitals can make those decisions because they know they have the funds that this community has so generously donated."

Tickets for both the Dream Lottery and 50/50 draw are on sale now and will continue to be until December 13. The first early draw deadline is October 18.
