A former London Knight will be joining the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The team announced on Sunday that it signed star free agent John Tavares.
The 27-year-old centre from Mississauga scored 37 goals and 47 assists in 82 games for the New York Islanders last year. He was drafted as the No. 1 pick by the Islanders in 2009."I’m thrilled to be starting a new chapter of my career and life in Toronto with the Maple Leafs," says Tavares. "I feel very fortunate to come join a team with a great young core and play where I grew up learning and loving the game. I can’t wait to get started."
