Car Crashes Into Drug StoreJune 12, 2018 2:33pm
It was a close call for a Shoppers Drug Mart delivery driver who narrowly avoided being hit by a car that crashed through the front entrance of the south London store.
Ken Chaplin had just returned from his first round of deliveries with a tray of cups of coffee for his colleagues when the silver sedan plowed into the front of the drug store at 645 Commissioners Rd. E just after 10:30am Tuesday.
“I heard a crash and a crack, and next thing we knew there was a car sitting inside the store,” said Chaplin.
The 70-year-old woman behind the wheel of the vehicle had been attempting to park when the incident occurred, London police Constable Kimberly Flett confirmed.
There were no injuries as a result of the crash.
“The store staff jumped in and the police were here in a hurry and the woman was well taken care of. One of our staff who is well versed in first aid was the first one to her and she and the police got the woman out of the car,” said Chaplin. “Not a spot I would want to be in because there was lots of dangling glass above them from the big window.”
Chaplin, a longtime employee of the drug store, said this is the third time in four years a vehicle has crashed into the building.
“You just keep an eye on your back now,” stated Chaplin.
Damage is estimated at $10,000. Police have not laid any charges.
