Live First World War Shell Found At Curb

London police are reminding the public to never handle anything that looks like military ordinance after a live shell from the First World War was found near a homeowner's garbage.

Police were called around 11am Tuesday after a shell that measured roughly 60 cm was found in a driveway on Centre St.

According to police, the homeowner found the shell after someone put it near his garbage at the curb.

The London police Explosive Disposal Unit came to the scene and then called the Canadian Forces Explosive Ordinance Disposal unit in Borden. It determined the shell was live and contained 9-13 kg of explosive inside.

The shell was taken to Borden to be destroyed.
