Arrest Made In Grey St. Homicide

London police have arrested a man in connection with a fatal stabbing in the SoHo area Tuesday night.

Police and paramedics were called about a stabbing at a small bungalow on Grey St. between Maitland St. and William St. around 9:55pm. Roy Joseph Gowdy, 44, of London was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after.

The front of the home was cordoned off by yellow police tape and orange pylons on Wednesday morning. Two police cruisers and a forensic identification van were also parked out front. Officers were seen searching the area for evidence, including on the property of nearby Aberdeen public school.

A man had been spotted leaving the scene of the stabbing, according to police. By Wednesday afternoon, investigators announced they had a man in custody and are not looking for any additional suspects in relation to the stabbing. Charges are said to be pending.

Neighbours told Blackburn News the home is a duplex and a man and older woman live in the front apartment. It's believed they have lived there for nearly a year.

"This is actually quite a nice neighbourhood. I don't have any enemies and my neighbours don't have any enemies and we protect each other," said Kath Johnston, who has lived across the road from 530 Grey St. for 35 years.

Johnston said her and her husband were not aware anything had happened on the street until it was flooded with police cruisers.

"We didn't hear any violence at all and I was right by my window, which was open. We did not hear it," said Johnston. "Then there was a million cop lights and an ambulance. We came to the door and all the neighbours were out. This is so sad and so unfortunate for this man."

Police have not specified whether this was a targeted incident. They are asking anyone with information related to the stabbing to give them a call at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
