SIU Drops London Cop Investigation

The province's police watchdog has dropped an investigation of a London police officer after determining the civilian involved did not suffer any serious injuries during a February arrest.

According to the Special Investigations Unit, London police pulled over an e-bike in the area of King St. and Burwell St. around 2:30am on February 27. The driver of the e-bike, a 47-year-old man, was arrested following an interaction with the officer.

He notified the SIU about the incident with London police on March 8.

The SIU determined the man made two visits to hospital but no serious injuries were diagnosed.

"The medical evidence indicates the man did not sustain a serious injury. Accordingly, I have terminated the investigation into this incident,” said SIU Director Tony Loparco in a statement issued Monday.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
