Flood Watch Issued For London And Area

With heavy rainfall expected over the weekend, the local Upper Thames River Conservation Authority is warning of possible flooding in the local region.

With 60-90 mm expected this weekend and into the week, the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority has issued a flood watch for the area. The ground will become saturated and will be unable to absorb any rainfall, which will cause runoff in some areas. Flooding is also expected in traditional floodplain areas.

"Water levels will rise throughout the weekend, with peaks developing early Monday in Mitchell, Stratford, and Woodstock and later in the day in London," the conservation authority said in a statement. "Water levels will remain elevated throughout next week."

The conservation authority's flood control reservoirs at Fanshawe, Wildwood and Pittock Conservation Areas will be operated to reduce downstream flooding.

Residents are urged to use caution near all watercourses, and to keep children and pets away. Streambanks are slippery and the water can be very cold.
