Would-Be Thief Chucks Coffee At Timmies Employee

A London man is accused of throwing hot coffee at a Tim Hortons employee as she tried to stop the theft of a charity donation box.

Witnesses told London police a man ordered a cup of coffee from the restaurant at 841 Wharncliffe Rd. S, near Southdale Rd. on Tuesday and then proceeded to pry open the Tim Hortons Children’s Foundation donation box. The man then allegedly stuffed an undisclosed amount of cash from the box into his coat pocket.

When a female employee and another customer tried to stop the man he threatened the pair and threw a coffee at them, police said. The hot beverage hit the employee in the chest, causing minor injuries.

Police were called and the man was arrested. The cash from the donation box was returned.

A 27-year-old London man is charged with assault with a weapon, uttering threats, and theft under $5,000. He will appear in London court on February 26.
