Multi-Vehicle Crash Injures Eight

A four-vehicle crash southwest of London has sent eight people to hospital, one with serious injuries.

Middlesex OPP say a southbound vehicle on Carriage Rd. collided with a pickup truck that was heading west on Longwoods Rd. around 11:30am on Wednesday. The force of the crash caused the pickup to become airborne. It then flew over the top of an SUV before crashing into a fourth vehicle.

Eight people were taken to hospital with various injuries, according to police.

"At this point, the information that we have from medical staff is that one person out of the eight remains in serious condition at hospital. However, those injuries are not life threatening," said Constable Max Gomez.

While Carriage Rd. is governed by a stop-sign at Longwoods Rd., police aren't hazarding a guess about whether driver error played a role in the crash.

"We will be investigating to see if this is an intersection-related collision," said Gomez. "It is just too early to speculate as to what precipitated the collision and that is what our traffic collision investigators will be attempting to determine."

Longwoods Rd. between Martin Rd. and Brigham Rd. and Carriage Rd. between Harris Rd. and Sharon Rd. are closed as police continue to investigate. The roads aren't expected to reopen until after 7pm.
