Unusual Smell Not A Gas Leak

The London Fire Department has pinpointed the cause of a strange smell that began wafting over south London Friday morning.

While the source of the foul smell has not been released, city officials did indicate the Ministry of the Environment was called to the site.

"A Ministry representative has confirmed there are no health or safety concerns for Londoners," city officials said in a statement. "The issue is being mitigated, but odours may linger over the weekend."

Earlier in the day the fire department and Union Gas confirmed the unusual smell was not the result of a natural gas leak.

Several residents in the city’s south-end began expressing concern over the smell, which some have likened to boiled brussel sprouts or rotten sauerkraut, early Friday.
