Belt Buckle Causes Grenade Scare At Airport

A decision by a traveller to pack a belt buckle in the shape of a hand grenade made for some tense moments at the London International Airport.

Around 5am Tuesday, London police were called to the airport after staff discovered what they thought was a grenade as they scanned luggage. Police quickly determined that it was, in fact, a belt buckle and not a real grenade.

"While it isn’t illegal to carry or wear grenade-shaped belt buckles, it does cause a problem while trying to pass through security at airports and other secure areas," police said in a statement issued Tuesday.

Police say anyone planning on flying who isn't sure what they can and can't bring on a plane should visit the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority website.
