Jenny Jones Makes $50K Donation In Memory Of Late Sister

Comedian and former talk show host Jenny Jones is once again making a sizable donation within the London community.

Jones, who grew up in London after her parents immigrated to Canada from Poland, has donated $50,000 to My Sisters’ Place in memory of her late sister Elizabeth Rankin.

"I heard many great things about My Sisters’ Place from my own sister, and when she passed away I vowed to honour her memory with a donation in her name," Jones said in a news release. "She would be happy to know that this gift will bring care and comfort to many women we have never met, but who are all our sisters in spirit.”

My Sisters’ Place is a shelter and support centre for women, located at 566 Dundas St. in London. The donation will be used to fund annual costs for women’s empowerment programs, which include peer support, a speaker’s bureau, a theatre group, financial literacy, and self-compassion workshops.

“All of these programs are integral to a woman’s journey to greater health – in all sense of the word,” said Susan Macphail, the director of Women's and Community Programs at Canadian Mental Health Association. “In memory of her own sister, Jenny has enhanced the opportunities for sisterhood in our community.”

In 2016, Jones also donated $200,000 to develop a state-of-the-art accessible playground in Springbank Park.
