OPP: Beware of Police Impersonator

Ontario Provincial Police are cautioning the public about a suspected police impersonator.

The OPP says two incidents were reported in the region this week, both late in the evening.

The first happened just before midnight Wednesday on Talbot Line near Carson Rd in Bayham, in Elgin County. Police say a driver was approached by a dark-coloured Pontiac G-5 style vehicle with red and blue lights in the windshield. That vehicle soon left the area, travelling westbound on Talbot Line.

The second occurred Thursday night around 10:30 on Plank Rd north of Mount Elgin in Oxford County. The driver reported being stopped by a similar vehicle, which also left after a similar interaction.

Police say if you are unsure if a police officer actually stopped you, call 911. The dispatcher will be able to confirm if it was an officer that stopped you.

Impersonating a police officer is a criminal offence.

Anyone with information on either of these incidents is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
