Possible Link Between London, Thorndale Bank Thefts

Provincial police are investigating whether the attempted theft of a bank night deposit box in Thorndale is linked to two similar thefts in London.

Middlesex OPP say thieves used a vehicle to try to remove the deposit box at the Bank of Montreal on King St. in Thorndale on Monday. The cover came off in the attempted theft, but the deposit box itself didn't budge. The thieves soon left empty handed.

"OPP investigators are aware of similar reported events in the City of London, event linkages will be considered," said Constable Max Gomez in a news release.

Last month, the night deposit boxes from the Scotiabank at 639 Southdale Rd. E and the Scotiabank at 1430 Fanshawe Park Rd. were stolen.  An ATM was also removed from inside the Canadian Tire gas bar on Hyde Park Rd., south of Fanshawe Park Rd. At the time, London police said they believed a black GMC pickup truck was involved in the thefts.

The OPP have not said what type of vehicle was used in the Thorndale incident.

Anyone with information about the thefts or attempted thefts is asked to call police at 1-888-310-1122.
