Hit and Run Driver Sought After 401 Crash

Ontario Provincial Police are looking for a vehicle that left the scene of a crash on Hwy 401 Sunday afternoon.

It happened shortly after noon on the westbound 401 just east of the Norwich Ave/Hwy 59 exit. Reports say a pickup truck travelling westbound when it suddenly changed lanes, causing a Chevrolet to swerve in the middle lane to avoid a wreck. The car ultimately lost control and hit a transport trailer in the lane closest to the right shoulder. Both vehicles ended up blocking all three lanes of traffic, according to the OPP.

The driver of the pickup truck, described as male, did not stop, police say, and continued westbound. It is described as black or brown, possibly a Chevrolet Silverado or Colorado make, with an ATV covered in dirt on the truck bed with mud wheels on it.

The male driver of the Chevrolet car and his female passenger were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. The transport driver was not hurt.

Hwy 401 was shut down in that area for two hours while the investigation and cleanup took place, and has reopened. The Woodstock Fire Department also assisted in the investigation.

The OPP would like to speak to anybody who witnessed the incident who has not already provided information. Any information on the crash or on the pickup truck that left the scene is asked to call the OPP in Oxford County at 1-888-310-1122 or their nearest police authority.
