Suspect In Officer Airport Stabbing Is Canadian

A Canadian man has been arrested after a stabbing involving a police officer at an airport in Flint, Michigan, which is being investigated as an act of terrorism.

According to the Toronto Star, the FBI has charged Canadian Amor Ftouhi with causing violence at an international airport, after Lieutenant Jeff Neville was stabbed in the neck at Bishop International Airport at around 9:45am on Wednesday. Neville is an officer in the airport’s Department of Public Safety.

Neville was rushed to hospital in critical condition, but he has since been upgraded to stable condition after undergoing emergency surgery.

During a news conference Wednesday evening, FBI special agent David Gelios said Ftouhi entered the U.S. at a New York border crossing in mid-June. The FBI also said Ftouhi yelled “Allahu akbar,” the Arabic phrase for “God is great," as he allegedly stabbed Neville. Gelios also said the FBI has no information “to suggest a wider plot.”

According to The Star, Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale has consulted with the commissioner of the RCMP, as well as the national security adviser to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

“Obviously Canada condemns this heinous and cowardly act. The officer and his family are very much in our prayers at this time,” he said. “There is complete co-operation between the RCMP and all of the authorities and agencies in Canada and their counterparts in the United States. We’re doing everything we possibly can to assist in this matter."
