Knights Weather the Storm 5-3

The London Knights overcame a hat trick by Guelph's Givani Smith and scored four unanswered goals on their way to a 5-3 win over the Storm at Sleeman Centre.

The Knights maintain a lead in the OHL Midwest Division standings with 38 points, two points ahead of the Erie Otters.

Smith, who now leads the Storm with 14 goals, began his night with two straight goals.  The first came in the first period, when Smith scored on the power play at 15:05 into the opening frame.  The second goal was scored just 45 seconds into the second.  London's Janne Kuokkanen got the Knights on the scoreboard at 7:44 in the second with his 13th goal of the year, but Smith would respond a little over three minutes later with his third goal of the night, completing the hat trick.

That hat trick would account for all of Guelph's scoring in the contest.  The Knights would close the second period with two goals within the final minute of the stanza.  Robert Thomas and Adrian Carbonara were the goal scorers, tying up the game at the second intermission at three apiece.

The third period would be dominated by the visiting Knights.  Olli Juolevi would give the Knights the lead for good with his fifth goal of the year at 14:38.  An insurance goal from Cliff Pu at 18:44 in the period sealed the win for London.

Tyler Parsons got the win in goal for London, who outshot the Storm 35-26.

The Knights next host the Owen Sound Attack Friday night at Budweiser Gardens.
