City Axes Second Deputy Mayor Position

London has whittled its deputy mayor positions down to one.

City council voted Tuesday to have staff start the process of eliminating the second deputy mayor spot. The position has been vacant for four months.

Councillor Maureen Cassidy resigned from the post in June after admitting to having an extramarital affair with Mayor Matt Brown. She had been voted into the position by her council colleagues.

The decision to eliminate the second deputy mayor position leaves Councillor Paul Hubert as the city's lone deputy mayor.

Hubert was appointed to the post by Brown at the start of the term.
