Knights Reach Twitter Milestone

The London Knights have another milestone to add to their recent list of accomplishments.

The defending Memorial Cup champions have reach fifty thousand followers on Twitter, becoming the first CHL hockey team to achieve that number of followers.  The Knights already have the largest number of online followers of any junior hockey team.  Knights public relations and communications manager Ryan Starr said he is pleased to see how engaged fans are with the team.

“It’s great to see our fans interacting with us so enthusiastically, day in and day out, whether it be cheering us on in person or following the live game updates online,” said Starr in a press release.

The team opened its official account on the social media giant in 2009.  During that time period, the Knights have won three Ontario Hockey League championships and a MasterCard Memorial Cup title.  There was an increase in followers during this spring's tournament which resulted in that Cup win for London.  The account's most popular tweet, which was seen and shared over 300,000 times, came after Matthew Tkachuk scored the game-winner in overtime to clinch the Cup, reading "IT'S OVER! MEMORIAL CUP CHAMPIONS!"

“We would like to thank our fans based here in London and throughout the world who passionately follow the team here at home, and online," said Starr.
