London Taps Oktoberfest Keg Friday

Bavarian beer, food, and music will fill the Western Fair District as Oktoberfest returns to London for a second year.

The five day festival begins with the customary keg tapping Friday at 6:45pm at the Metroland Media Agriplex and continues October 8, 13, 14, and 15.

Western Fair District Director of Shows and Events Rob Lumsden says the more Londoners get into the event, the more fun it is for everyone.

"One of the big lessons we learned from last year is Oktoberfest truly is a participatory event," says Lumsden. "It's really beneficial when you're attending an Oktoberfest event to get yourself some of the authentic German items to wear, eat the food, and participate in the chants, cheers, and dancing. It really is a get off your seat and have some fun kind of event."

Those in attendance will learn authentic German dancing from the Saxonia Hall Dancers. Ansambel Murski Val and Chardon Polka Band from Ohio are also slated to perform.

"Both of these bands can play your traditional polka but they can also transition into rock, punk, and today's hits so it won't be a five hour display of polka music by any means," says Lumsden. "We top it off with our big night next Thursday, the Rock the Festhalle night with Tom Cochrane with Red Rider and special guest Big Sugar."

Rock the Festhalle is being presented by Classic Rock Free 98.1. It will offer seating in the stands and on the floor. Tables on the arena floor, will be taken on a first come, first served basis.

Cochrane is a multiple Juno award winner and member of the Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame. He is best known for his hit “Life Is A Highway."

It's expected up to 10,000 people will attend Oktoberfest in London.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.westernfairdistrict.com or at the door.
