Dip In London-St. Thomas Jobless Rate

After holding steady for two months, the London-St. Thomas unemployment rate dropped slightly in September.

Statistics Canada says the jobless rate dipped to 7% last month, down from 7.2% in August.

It's the first time in four months the unemployment rate for the London area has been this low. While the labour force declined by 200, another 500 people gained employment.

Nationally, the jobless rate held steady at 7% as 67,000 jobs were created. However most of those positions were only part-time. It's the second month in a row Canada's unemployment rate has sat at 7%.

In Ontario, the jobless rate dipped to 6.6% in September from 6.7% the month before. The slight decline comes as 16,000 part-time jobs were added.
