Clown Threat Made To London High Schoolers

London high schools are on alert after some students received social media threats of a violent clown attack.

The message posted to Instagram reads "we are coming to every single high school in London, we are kidnapping students and killing teachers, we're not clowning around."

A second message warns "do not show up to school on Friday, the clowns are going to be there and this is not a joke. It doesn't matter what high school you're at other than RMC (Regina Mundi Collegiate), they're coming."

London District Catholic School Board spokesman Mark Adkinson says London police have been notified about the threats.

"It's a general threat not directed toward any specific school but it is serious enough that we have put a call into police," says Adkinson. "What we're doing is keeping an eye on social media and talking to the kids about responsible use of social media."

The threats were brought to the attention of teachers by students.

Adkinson says at this point there are no plans to close area high schools.

Police are investigating the incident and are speaking with local school board officials to ensure students remain safe within the school. They are also reminding the public that criminal charges can be laid based on items posted to social media.

So called "clown attacks" have been popping up across North America over the past few months. In some of the reports, menacing clowns have been spotted with weapons trying to lure kids into wooded areas, or running at vehicles.
