Man Arrested In Alleged Campus Threat

London police have arrested a Western University student after a threatening post on social media.

A 22-year-old man was taken into custody after police allege he threatened in a post on Facebook that he planned to bring a gun to the campus of Western University and hurt students.

The post, which was made on Monday morning, was brought to the attention of London police by Western campus police around 9:30am.

London police investigated the incident and arrested a 22-year-old North York man at his off-campus home around 11am. Police did not recover a weapon at the home. The man is accused of uttering threats to cause death.

He remains in police custody. His name has not been released, but likely will be after he appears in court and charges are officially laid on Tuesday morning.

Police say the intended target or targets of the threats are unknown and the investigation is on-going.

Statement from Western University:

"Western acknowledges that there is an ongoing police investigation related to a threat to campus.

The person involved with this incident has been arrested and is presently in custody with London Police Service (LPS), posing no active threat to campus.

Western is cooperating with the investigation led by London Police Service.

These situations are upsetting. If community members are in need of assistance, they can contact and access health services on campus.
