Four Officers Injured During Crime Spree In Elgin County

A crash involving four OPP cruisers has resulted in the arrest of two young men in Elgin County.

The Ontario Provincial Police say on Friday around 6pm, police noticed a stolen white pickup truck on Southdel Bourne. Police tried to conduct a traffic stop but the truck continued and took an exit from Hwy. 401 into the Sheddon area.

Two suspects in the vehicle then allegedly broke into a residence in Sheddon and stole keys to a blue pickup truck. They then abandoned the white pickup truck at the residence, where police later found two long range guns.

Police immediately located the blue pickup truck driving on Talbot Line. The pickup truck then crash into two police cruisers on Mill Rd. The stolen pickup truck continued onto Longhurst Line, where it crashed into two more police cruisers.

Continuing to flee, the suspects left the blue pickup truck on Longhurst Line and flagged a passing vehicle. The suspects then allegedly attempted to steal that vehicle by assaulting the occupants but failed.

The two men attempted to hide in a ditch. but were found by police.

Weapons charges and numerous other criminal charges are pending against a 26-year-old man from Haldimand County, and a 15-year-old male who cannot be identified as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The police cruisers hit by the two men sustained significant damage and had to be towed away. The four officers in the cruisers suffered non-life threatening injuries and have since been discharged from hospital.

Longhurst Line from John Wise Line to Mill Rd., and Mill Rd. from Stafford Line to Third Line, were closed overnight.

Police say the investigation is still in its early stages.
