Students Return To Ekcoe Central School Monday

Elementary students in Glencoe will return to Ekcoe Central Public School on Monday, now that the building has been rid of mould.

The Thames Valley District School Board says occupational health and safety consultants overseeing the removal of the mould have verified the school is safe. Air quality tests now show no evidence of mould and the site has been inspected by the Middlesex-London Health Unit.

The mould problem at the school was discovered in August. It delayed the start of the school year for students who were told to stay home during the first few days of class. Temporary classes were soon established at nearby Glencoe District High School.

Teachers will return to the school later this week to prepare their individual classrooms. Bus routes to the school will resume Monday and an open house is scheduled for next Thursday from 7pm to 9pm.

To make the school suitable for students again contractors removed, cleaned, and reinstalled chalk boards, light fixtures, fire alarms, ventilation ducts, and white boards. Ceiling tiles and cabinets containing classroom sinks have also been replaced.
