Police Issue Warning About Counterfeit Money

A warning is going out to businesses in London about counterfeit US $100 bills that are going around.

Police say there have been over 20 cases of small business owners accepting the fake bills this year.

"Small business owners should be aware that these bills are being circulated and contact the Police if anyone attempts to provide them as payment," police say in a news release. "These are poor quality bills that should be detected as counterfeit after basic examination."

The following are security features carried by U.S. Currency:

  • 3D Security Ribbon
  • Colour-Shifting Ink
  • Portrait Watermark
  • Security Thread
  • Raised and Microprinting
Anyone with information  is asked to call the London Police Service at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
