Heat Warning In Effect

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning as high temperatures blanket most of Southern Ontario.

London-Middlesex, Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent, and Midwestern Ontario are all covered by the warning. The weather agency expects temperatures to reach the low 30 C range Thursday and Friday. Humidex values will make it feel as hot as 39 C.

Health officials say hot temperatures such as these raise the risk of heat exhaustion. Symptoms to watch for include rapid breathing, dizziness or fainting, vomiting, rapid heartbeat, and extreme thirst. If any of these symptoms arise, a person should move to a shaded or air conditioned area.

Heat stroke, which can be fatal, is also a risk. If anyone experiences symptoms like high body temperature, unconsciousness, or confusion, they need to receive medical attention.

Weather officials are forecasting temperatures to return to seasonal levels over the weekend.
