Scorching Temperatures London Bound

Sizzling temperatures expected to last through the weekend have prompted Environment Canada to issue another heat warning for London-Middlesex.

The national weather agency is calling for hot and humid conditions to arrive across southern Ontario Thursday and continue through the weekend. Highs will range from 30 C to 32 C but will feel much hotter because of the humidity. There will be little relief overnight as temperatures hover around 20 C.

The heat warning covers all of southern Ontario, much of northern Ontario, and parts of Manitoba.

The Middlesex London Health Unit has also issued an extended heat warning that will come into effect on Thursday and last through the weekend.

During the extreme heat there is an increased risk of heat related illness, including dizziness or fainting, nausea or vomiting, headache, and rapid breathing and heartbeat. The elderly, infants and small children, people with chronic illnesses such as breathing difficulties, heart conditions or psychiatric illnesses, the homeless, and those without air conditioning are at the greatest risk of suffering heat related illness.

Residents in areas under a heat warning are advised to drink plenty of fluids, especially water to prevent dehydration and never to leave children or pets in parked vehicles.

Temperatures are expected to slip back below 30 C on Monday.
