Police Probe Suspicious Fire In St. Thomas

Police are investigating after utility trailer was intentionally set on fire causing damage to two homes in St. Thomas.

The St. Thomas Fire Department says on Tuesday just before 9pm, firefighters responded to the blaze at a residential address on Scott St.

Fire officials say the blaze was set intentionally inside the utility trailer, before it spread to the home it was parked next to. The home, which was being under renovation at the time, was seriously damaged. The heat from the fire also melted the siding on a neighbouring home.

No one was injured in the blaze.

The exact cause of the fire has yet to be determined, but damage is estimated at $80,000. The Ontario Fire Marshall's Office has been contacted but will not be attending the scene.

The fire remains under investigation by the St. Thomas Police Service.
