Brown, Cassidy Forgoing Pay During Leave

London taxpayers will not be paying the salaries of Mayor Matt Brown and Councillor Maureen Cassidy while they are on leave from council.

Officials with the Mayor's Office confirmed Friday that Brown will forgo his salary during his undetermined amount of time off from city hall. Cassidy sent a letter to city officials on Thursday saying she would be doing the same.

In addition to not being paid, Brown has also said he will be covering the cost of the invoice from his meeting with the London's Integrity Commissioner, Greg Stewart. He is paid $250 an hour plus expenses while investigating issues at city hall. This is the first time since being appointed in May that Stewart has been called on.

Brown travelled to Stewart's Grand Bend law office on Thursday to discuss the possible code of conduct breach his affair with Cassidy may pose. Brown has indicated he will abide by any decisions or recommendations Stewart makes.

Brown and Cassidy admitted to having an "inappropriate personal relationship" on Tuesday, which resulted in both taking an indefinite step back from their duties at city hall. Cassidy's admission came just minutes after she resigned her post as deputy mayor.

It is unclear when Brown and Cassidy will return from their leaves.
