Food Drive Donations Down 50%

With only two and a half days left in the London Cares Curb Hunger Food Drive, there is an urgent appeal for donations.

Roughly 30,000 lbs of food has been collected so far, that's down 50% from this time last year.

“Amidst the desire to reduce poverty all across the city, thousands of Londoners continue having trouble putting food on the table. The success of the Curb Hunger Food Drive is pivotal in addressing the immediate need," says Jane Roy, co-executive director of the London Food Bank. “It’s our hope that all Londoners will take advantage of the drive to reach out to those struggling to make ends meet.”

Until Saturday, Londoners can leave extra non-perishable food donations at the grocery store, bring items to any fire station, or place them in a bag tied with a ribbon and set them out beside their blue box the morning of their recycling day.

City officials say the June food drive is vital to stocking the food bank's shelves over the summer months.

Last year's curb hunger food drive brought in 60,000 lbs of food.
