Food Drive Entering Final Weekend

The London Food Bank is hoping Londoners will be generous this weekend as its annual Spring Food Drive wraps up.

As of Thursday afternoon, they had collected 42,800 lbs of food. That's just shy of what had been collected heading into the final weekend of last year's drive.

"We were a little lower in the beginning of the drive because it was a slow weekend, it was March Break," says food bank Co-Director Jane Roy. "Now people are getting back, and getting back into the swing of things."

The annual campaign, which aims to keep shelves stocked throughout the slow summer months, comes as the food bank sees a resurgence in the number of people relying on its services.

Co-Executive Director Glen Pearson says the food bank is once again helping nearly 3,600 families a month.

For those interested in donating, the London Food Bank is looking for any food you would normally purchase for yourself, incluing toiletries and non food items. Roy adds that people should try to choose healthier snacks and whole wheat options.

You can donate your items at most grocery stores across London, local fire stations, or at the food bank. The campaign runs until Monday.
